The
Nicholas
Brothers --
Harold (younger
and with longer
hair) and Fayard
(older and with
shorter hair) --
were stars from
the time of
their childhood
on.
Vaudeville,
nightclubs,
Broadway,
Hollywood - they
did it
all. In
the 1940’s, they
appeared in a
string of movie
musicals.
The "Jumpin’
Jive" number
from “Stormy
Weather" (a Fox
film with an
all-Black cast)
is the pinnacle
of their filmed
routines:
30
years later --
in prep for his
job as the host
of a TV
documentary on
Twentieth
Century-Fox
musicals -- Fred
Astaire was
shown the number
in a Fox
screening
room. He
made the
projectionist
run the number
multiple times,
exclaiming
“That’s the
greatest dancing
I’ve ever seen
on screen.”
