In a movie that is almost all about men
ogling Marilyn Monroe and Jane Russell, a
refreshing twist is Jane singing a song
about lusting for men.
She’s backed by dozens of athletes wearing
brief flesh-colored swimsuits.
While not dance per se, there’s a lot of
Jack Cole- choreographed movement going
on.
Three notes about this clip:
One, it includes the audio track of a
verse sung by Jane and the other women
eyeing the men deleted from the
movie.
Two, in the audio track, there is a lyric
mentioning “Helsinki,” a timely reference
to the 1952 Summer Olympic Games which
took place in Helsinki, Finland.
And three, (SPOILER ALERT) for over 70
years, the story has circulated that
Jane’s dunk into the pool was
“unplanned.”
Balderdash!
There would be no reason for her to crouch
down on the edge of the pool other than to
be knocked into the water.
